Far flung and beautiful analog techno gestures hailing from bonnie Scotland. With issues for Phonica Records and most recently Unthank, Lord Of The Isles has built a fine catalogue in the space of a few years. He's perfectly suited to the Shevchenko space academy with this EP, taking in the windswept and throbbing Martian/North Atlantic expanse of 'Elgol' on the A-side, backed with the hypnotising harmonic sequences of 'Galicia' and the warmly elegiac, folk-tinted 'tronica of 'Timber Lorries Emerging' on the flipside. Following his prime edit material for Cole Medina's American Standard label, Scottish producer Lord Of The Isles has seen original productions land on the likes of Cocktail d'Amore, Ene, and his own Little Strong as well as gracing the Phonica Special Edition Series. Now he arrives on Shevchenko for the label's seventh release, with three tracks representing the many shades and hues of his production palette. "Elgol" sees the producer venture into similarly impressionistic house territory as Legowelt, with nebulous organ chords joined by loosely jacking drums and gentle acid textures. On the flip, "Galicia" delivers a deep jam with all the same free-flowing analogue tendrils and luscious bass, while "Timber Lorries Emerging" combines a bassline with a John Carpenter-inspired tension with neo-Balearic soul, a combination that works a lot better in practice than you'd expect. As with all Shevchecnko releases clear vinyl and exceptional music is the order of the day - highly recommended. (Juno)

Following on LOTI's fine offering on sister label Unthank, an expansive three-track ep with roots equally in Detroit, Sheffield and also the Scottish Highlands and West Coast. Open-minded and progressive techno inspired by the wilds of Scotland and beyond. Two atmospheric synthesizer jams and one incidental, ambient type piece. "Elgol" is the long, drawn-out epic; with cascading arps and luscious pads enveloping everything while twinkling, Derrick May-esque fragments circle overhead. "Galicia" is equally as galactically minded and on the same leylines as Derrick May and Juan Atkins but with an organic, rural deepness and quality to its production. "Timber Lorries Emerging" is the post-Balearic money shot here - a gorgeous beatless track of meandering lead lines and gentle synthesized strings. Beautiful. Highly recommended and likely to fly out - get those orders in quick folks! (Piccadilly)
